Cartoon Review: Wolverine and the X-Men Ep. 3

"Hindsight: Part 3"

Review
Now that we have got the third part of the 3-part the creators have nicely layed out the mission statement for this series. From the looks of it this series, or at least this season, will be about the X-Men preventing the horrible future Professor X is in (Days of Future Past). While it is nothing new it is good to see that we do not have to wait 10 episodes in order to find out the real purpose of the show.

The team is mostly the same as the team from Josh Whedon's run on Astonishing X-Men. We have Cyclops, Wolverine, Emma Frost, Beast, Kitty and Iceman making up the core of the team. The creators of this show have done a nice job getting the personality of each X-Men for the most part. I am glad that they decided to use the icy and bitchy Emma Frost instead of the Jean Grey-lite Emma Frost we have been getting recently in her comic book version.

The one part of the show that I do not like is that Cyclops and Wolverine have basically switched roles in this series. Wolverine is now the leader and inspirational center of the X-Men, while Cyclops in the quite loner with an attitude problem. It just doesn't seem right having Wolverine lead the team when Cyclops is a part of the team. Though I will give the show credit for having both characters acknowledge this fact instead of just having them accept the new roles each character finds themselves in.

The action, while nothing like in the Hulk vs movie (which is in the same continuity of this show), is decent and will probably be very entertaining for the target market of this show, kids. Even though I hate the PC version of Wolverine we are getting in this show, and in his recent comic book interpretation, as long as Wolverine gets a chance to continue to fight robots (whether in the Danger Room or the Sentinels) I will be fine with the action scenes.

And as always no new X-Men series is complete with the appearance of Magneto and him being the main antagonist for the series along with the government and the Sentinels. Magneto in this episode is the same one that it takes all the X-Men just to get close to him. It will be interesting to see how he gets involved with the new government sanctions, though predictable, and how it affects the future that Xavier is in.

Overall these first three episodes have nicely layed out the foundation for what looks to be an entertaining new X-Men series. As long as you take it as for what it is, a kids TV show, there doesn't seem to be anything long time X-Men fans will not enjoy about this series. Plus, there are enough little things in this show that X-Men fans will enjoy. So if your an X-Men fan or have kids I recommend giving this show a shot.

Episode Rating - 8/10
